Our patients are usually seen by the Midwives at Salisbury Hospital. If you are pregnant you can go straight to the following link and register your pregnancy with them:

From the Salisbury midwives
Please be aware that we work within the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, therefore if you do choose to have your baby in a different hospital, you will be required to attend that hospital for all blood tests, ultrasound scans and possibly your booking appointment also. If you book for Salisbury Hospital, we will (mostly) be able to provide your antenatal care within your usual GP surgery. We also have a consultant-led clinic in Shaftesbury which means you may not need to travel to Salisbury unnecessarily if you need to see an obstetrician at any point during your pregnancy. If you would like to consider a home birth, you will need to book for Salisbury Hospital.
Non-urgent Number: Abbey View Medical Centre 01747 856 713
Urgent: Salisbury District Hospital: 01722 425188
If you wish to be seen at an alternative hospital to SDH for your maternity care please contact that hospital direct.
Update 04.05.2023 from Salisbury Foundation Trust
Following the National Maternity Review’s report Better Births (2016) which sets out a vision for the planning, design, and safe delivery of maternity services; how women, babies and families will be able to get the type of care they want; and how staff will be supported to deliver such care, we have made a decision to secure midwifery hubs for our community midwifery teams within our catchment area. We already have several existing hubs for some of our community teams and the Shaftsbury / Gillingham team is now the latest to join the community hub model.
‘Community hubs should be established, where maternity services, particularly ante- and postnatally, are provided alongside other family-orientated health and social services provided by statutory and voluntary agencies. Community hubs should work closely with their obstetric and neonatal unit(s).’
This is of course a big change to current workforce practice and the reason for SFT writing now.
Our plan is to provide all care to pregnant women in a central hub. This is the Nadder centre in Tisbury. We have secured the lease and aim to be opening shortly.
The team have written an information leaflet (PDF). There will be no change in care pathway at all, just the physical environment where women will be seen. The team have been preparing their women for this change so this will not be a surprise announcement.
The new maternity page on SFT’s website is up to date.
